The Wickaninnish Gallery is named after a powerful First Nations chief, Chief Wickaninnish of the Tla-o-qui-aht People from Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island. The name Wickaninnish translates to "having no one in front of him in the canoe".
The Gallery has developed strong relationships with the artists and are able to satisfy custom jewelry orders for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, retirements, and anniversaries.
We feature the works of many emerging and established indigenous artists in our gallery.
Mike Matilpi is Kwakwaka'wakw, from Alert Bay, BC. He has been carving since 1993 and has been supplying the Wickaninnish Gallery with his beautiful creations since 2009.
The Wickaninnish Gallery is indigenous owned and was founded in 1987 by Patricia Rivard.
