Carrie Matilpi is a jewellery artist of Kwakwaka’wakw and Cree heritage who specializes in intricate and deeply carved pieces. She was born in Alert Bay, British Columbia. At nineteen, she began a silver work apprenticeship under her father, Charles Harper, where she learned the art of carving. Since beginning her carving journey in 1996, she has established herself as an expert carver, working in both gold and silver. She often works alongside her sister, Victoria Harper, and is among a steadily growing group of female jewellery carvers within Vancouver. She holds the Kolus, or the baby thunderbird, as her crest.

Indigenous-made, sterling silver cufflinks made by lost wax casting.

Lost wax casting is a method that involves building a mold around an intricately handcrafted wax model, melting away the wax, and filling the mold with molten metal. Each piece is then individually polished and completed by hand.
