Roy Henry Vickers is a well-known and celebrated Tsimshian artist known for his prints and carvings. He names Gitksan artist Vernon Stephens as an influence. Roy is a past president of the Northwest Coast Indians Artist’s Guild. In 1972, Roy trained at the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Indian Art at 'Ksan in Hazelton, BC. In 1986, he built his own gallery, Eagle Aerie, in Tofino, BC. A year later, in 1987, his original painting A Meeting of Chiefs was presented to Queen Elizabeth II as the province of BC's official gift at the Commonwealth Summit in Vancouver, BC. In 1993, a serigraph titled The Homecoming was presented to former US president, Bill Clinton, and former Soviet leader, Boris Yeltsin, at the Vancouver Summit. His work was also represented at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, BC, in 1994. Roy received the Order of British Columbia in 1998, and the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2003. His work can be found in both private and public collections around the world and has been featured in institutions including the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, QC, the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, BC, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, ON, and the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan.
