Unity
All Tribes and Nations come together as one with the Animal Kingdom, entrusted with the sacred duty of stewardship. We are called to speak for all living beings, standing united with nature. This design symbolizes the unity of humanity and animals, emphasizing our shared responsibility to protect and honour the natural world.
The Nisga'a people have lived in the Nass River Valley in Northwestern British Columbia since time immemorial. Every Nisga'a person belongs to a family group called a wilp, led by one or more chiefs, which owns land. They are also part of one of four clans: Killer Whale/Owl, Raven/Frog, Wolf/Bear, or Eagle/Beaver. The Nisga'a follow a matrilineal system, meaning they inherit clan membership and important rights, like names and songs, from their mother. Their beliefs, stories, and laws, known as Ayuuk, are carefully preserved and passed down to younger generations.
