Alvin Adkins, born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia in 1959, is a member of the Haida Nation from Haida Gwaii, bearing the family crests of the Raven, the Bear, and the Killer Whale. Self-taught in the Northwest Coast art form from age 22, Alvin has also been influenced by distinguished artists including Dempsey Bob, Freda Diesing, Bill Reid, Robert Davidson, and Don Yeomans. He maintains the traditional Haida carving style, preserving his heritage with meticulous craftsmanship, deep gouging, and imaginative formline. In addition to gold and silver, he also works in wood and argillite, and produces limited edition silkscreen prints.
